Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The Riau Islands provincial government received a delivery of 260 COVID-19 vaccine doses from the central government after the province ran out of vaccine stock for around two weeks.

"It arrived yesterday evening. There are 60 doses delivered for Tanjung Pinang. They are AstraZeneca," Head of the Riau Islands Communication and Informatics Office Hasan noted here Saturday.

According to Hasan, the government allocates COVID-19 vaccine doses from the central government for Tanjung Pinang since vaccination coverage in the city is still categorized as low.

"The vaccination (coverage) is still low, so regions that are still low are being encouraged,"' he affirmed.

The Riau Islands provincial government still awaits the delivery of additional COVID-19 vaccine supply from the Ministry of Health for other regions.

"The request letter has been delivered by us around three weeks ago, so we are still waiting. We expect that it can be realized as soon as possible," he noted.

With limited vaccine stocks, the provincial government awaits the central government's direction on implementing vaccination requirement for traveling between cities and provinces.

According to the ministry's data, until Saturday, the first, second, and third doses of COVID-19 vaccination administration had already reached 88.37 percent, 76.19 percent, and 40.95 percent from the targeted 1,802,705 residents in Riau Islands.

Meanwhile, in Tanjung Pinang, the first, second, and third dose vaccination administration respectively reached 85.39 percent, 75.82 percent, and 39.55 percent from the vaccination targeted for 201,108 people.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Health Office has sought permission for exercising the option of transferring COVID-19 vaccines from other regions to anticipate declining stocks in several health facilities.

"We also continue to request them since Jakarta has a high absorption," Head of Disease Prevention and Handling (P2P) at the Jakarta Health Office Dwi Oktavia stated in Jakarta on Friday.
