Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali provincial government has set up 1,834 free WiFi hotspots in Badung district and Denpasar city to support online work and learning activities during the G20 Summit on November 15–16, 2022.

Head of the Bali Provincial Communication, Information, and Statistics Office, Gede Pramana, said here on Tuesday that the government has made efforts to reduce community mobility during the summit, so working and learning activities will be conducted virtually.

"Hence, we, the provincial government of Bali, have installed up to 1,834 free WiFi hotspots, thus (the community’s) activities can be carried out virtually, and we have disseminated this (information on the provision of the free hotspots) to the community," he informed.

The regional government has also disseminated information about the restrictions on community mobility at offices, schools, and campuses across Badung district and Denpasar city.

However, he stated that his office will still allow employees who cannot carry out their work online, such as hotel employees, to go to their workplaces.

He said he is optimistic that no community activities will be hampered although they will be held virtually, considering that online work and learning have been implemented since the beginning of the pandemic on account of community activity restrictions (PPKM).

Furthermore, he assured that public service offices will continue operating during the G20 Summit.

"We have implemented virtual offices (even) prior to COVID-19, for instance, for correspondence and giving signatures. Thus, there is no reason not to work, since working is not limited by time and space," Pramana remarked.

Moreover, people will still be able to access public services through digital apps or websites, he added.

"For instance, payments to Samsat (One-stop Administration Services Office) can be made from home (online)," he said.

The public activities limitation has been requested by Coordinating Minister for Investment and Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who is leading all preparations for the G20 Summit in Bali.

State leaders attending the summit will not only hold a meeting in the Nusa Dua area, Badung district, but they are also scheduled to visit the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park in Badung district as well as the Ngurah Rai Mangrove Forest in Denpasar city.
