Don't let one person be left behind, leave no one behindJakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has stressed the importance of global collaboration in tackling the food crisis that is gripping the world as well as mitigating and resolving the energy and financial crisis.
"Don't let one person be left behind, leave no one behind," the minister stressed in a written statement received here on Wednesday.
Minister Limpo said that the G20 countries, as part of the global community, are committed to supporting the crucial role of the agricultural sector in providing food and nutrition for everyone. They are also pushing inclusive and sustainable economic development.
He delivered the press statement after the G20 Joint Finance and Agriculture Ministers' Meeting (JFAMM) in Washington D.C., the United States.
G20 finance ministers and agriculture ministers participated in the first JFAMM to follow up on the results of the G20 finance and agriculture deputies’ meeting on global food security last week.
Limpo said the G20 finance ministers and agriculture ministers are committed to finding a solution together in the form of a global funding scheme to push economic recovery and develop a better global agricultural sector. The global funding is meant for handling three priority issues in the agriculture and food sectors.
The first priority is promoting a strong and sustainable agricultural and food system, he noted. The second is promoting open, fair, predictable, transparent, and non-discriminatory agricultural trade to ensure food availability and affordability for all, he added.
The last priority is promoting innovative agricultural entrepreneurship through digital farming to improve the livelihoods of farmers in rural areas, he said. "The three priority issues are interconnected and a touch of technology and innovation is needed to make it happen," he opined.
Overcoming the global food crisis requires quick response and collaboration, the minister said. He reiterated that the key to overcoming the global food crisis is collaboration or togetherness.
"No country should be left behind. Collaboration is the key to overcoming current and future challenges," he added.
