"IDAI collects information from all IDAI branches throughout Indonesia to report the cases found. We receive reports from our members, so the data will be different from the Health Ministry's data (which is collected) from hospitals," IDAI chairperson Piprim Basarah Yanuarso informed at a media briefing on "Early Alertness against Acute Kidney Failure in Children" here on Friday.
Between September 26 and October 14, 2022, the number of children with acute kidney failure reached 152, IDAI reported.
Further investigation is necessary because the cause of the disease is not yet known, Yanuarso emphasized. Meanwhile, IDAI is trying to compile data from provinces with the Health Ministry.
However, he added, the reported cases still do not represent all existing cases and some hospitals or provinces have not reported any infections.
"There is no report from East Java, and there are only 16 provinces (that have reported the cases). The data will always be dynamic, it will always be updated; so we (can start to find the root of the disease) starting from infection and the possibility of intoxication," he said.
Therefore, as a mitigation measure, IDAI will continue to collect data on reports of acute kidney failure cases through all IDAI branches, he said.
It will also continue to carry out scientific coordination with relevant experts, such as the nephrology, infection, emergency, and children intensive care work units, as well as the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.
Moreover, Yanuarso said that IDAI is continuing to coordinate with the Health Ministry regarding the updation of cases, in terms of investigation, and therapeutic and educational support for all parents and families.
