Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono emphasized that project supervision consultants and contractors should accord priority to quality, environmental sustainability, and aesthetics in the dam construction process.

"Supervision consultants should be able to conduct their monitoring function well since they have an important role (to play) as the deputy project owner," the minister noted through a written statement, Saturday.

"Contractors should also have the eagerness or enthusiasm to maintain the quality of their works," he stated while reviewing the Tiu Suntuk Dam, Beringin Sila Dam, and Bintang Bano Irrigation Area in West Nusa Tenggara, Friday.

In relation to the aesthetic and environmental aspects, he urged contractors to optimize greening, specifically on the cliffs around the dams.

"Be careful, do not let the cliffs be bare. Everything has to be planted. If it is possible, install sprinklers also, so that they are not dry," he stated.

Tiu Suntuk Dam and Beringin Sila Dam are part of the six National Strategic Project (PSN) dams developed in West Nusa Tenggara to support national water and food security.

Tiu Suntuk Dam, located in West Sumbawa, has been constructed since February 2020, with a budget of Rp1.22 trillion and is targeted to be completed in December 2023.

Tiu Suntuk's construction is undertaken in two packages in which the progress in the work of the first package currently reaches 76.47 percent, while the progress of the second package stood at 45.78 percent.

The construction of Beringin Sila Dam, located in Sumbawa, has been conducted since January 2019 at a cost of Rp1.66 trillion.

Currently, the physical progress in the construction reaches 92.60 percent for package I and 96.05 percent for package II. The dam is targeted to be completed in December 2022.

The Bintang Bano Irrigation Area, spanning 4,200 hectares, is constructed to direct water from Bintang Bano Dam.

The realization of work for Bintang Bano for all packages currently stands at 55.5 percent on average, and it is targeted to be completed in 2023.

The minister requested to have the construction work to be completed by August 2023, so they can supply water to the people's farm.
