We want the heads of state (attending the summit) to feel safe and comfortableJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian military (TNI) has built intelligence cooperation for the exchange of information with other countries ahead of the G20 Summit, TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa has said.
He made the statement at the #G20Updates Press Conference, which was accessed on the Communication and Information Ministry's YouTube channel on Thursday.
He said that it will be better for the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) to collaborate with other countries’ military intelligence agencies to ensure the smooth implementation of the summit.
"What is the aim? It is to detect (any potential threats) early. There may be intelligence information from participating countries which may be related to the planned activity (the G20 Summit) in Bali,” he explained.
The cooperation has been carried out for three months, he informed.
The TNI commander said he expects that the collaboration would complement the information and data of the intelligence agencies, thereby allowing the G20 event to be implemented safely and orderly.
Another cooperation undertaken to strengthen security is the facilitation of other heads of state’s security forces, he said.
"Similarly, when the (Indonesian) President (Joko Widodo) visits other countries, usually we (the Presidential Security Guards) also collaborate with the host country (to ensure the safety of the President). In this case (at the 2022 G20 Summit), each country will also bring its security team,” he expounded.
Regarding this matter, his party has communicated with the security forces from the United States and China.
“We are trying to accommodate (the foreign security forces). We want the heads of state (attending the summit) to feel safe and comfortable," Perkasa said.
As the chair of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia will host the summit on November 15–16, 2022, in Bali, with the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger.”
The G20 is a global forum consisting of 19 countries and the European Union, which account for 80 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) and 75 percent of international trade.
