Jakarta (ANTARA) - The daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia have risen followed by an increase in bed occupancy rate (BOR) in COVID-19 hospitals and positivity rate, according to government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling Reisa Broto Asmoro.

"The occupancy rate of COVID-19 hospitals, or national BOR, increased in the last week in line with the increase in cases, specifically around 19.88 percent (BOR)," she noted at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

As of Wednesday (October 26), the number of active cases in the country increased to 21,481 people.

"It means the weekly positivity rate increased to 8.88 percent," she pointed out.

In addition, the daily confirmed cases rose. The spokesperson remarked that on October 24, 2022, the country only recorded 1,703 new cases. However, the figure almost doubled the day after, as 3,008 cases were recorded on October 25, 2022. On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the country recorded 3,048 new cases.

According to Asmoro, the three provinces of Jakarta, West Java, and East Java recorded the highest daily confirmed cases.

The government has also reminded all parties to remain alert against the XBB subvariant of Omicron that has entered Indonesia.

"From September 26 to October 25, 2022, four confirmed cases of the XBB variant were recorded in Indonesia. All (the patients) have completed their isolation and were declared recovered," she remarked.

Earlier, on Wednesday, spokesperson of the Health Ministry, Mohammad Syahril, noted that of the four XBB cases, three were found in Jakarta, with two of the cases being due to local transmission, while the other had contracted the infection from overseas. The other one in Surabaya, East Java, got infected overseas.

“The two overseas-transmitted patients have a history (of traveling) from Singapore and two patients were (infected from) local transmission," he remarked.

He noted that all patients with the XBB variant had received vaccinations: the two primary doses and the booster shot.
