Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin encouraged all stakeholders to actively partake in strengthening the Workers Social Security Program that could provide insurance for workers that met with accidents or fell ill while working.

Amin made the statement in his remarks at the Inauguration of the National Movement for the Protection of Vulnerable Workers (GN Lingkaran) and the Presentation of the Workers Social Security Paritrana Award 2021 here on Thursday.

To improve active participation in the program, the vice president expected the local government and state-run Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan/BPJAMSOSTEK) to continue to expand coverage of participants of the insurance program.

"The commitment of regional leaders is very important, especially to support (the strengthening of the program) through regulations and policies. Thus, all wage-recipient workers (employees/PPU) and non-wage recipient workers (entrepreneurs/PBPU) can be protected by the Workers Social Security Program," he stated.

The vice president also urged BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to increase active participation in the program by strengthening its governance in managing the insurance program professionally and accountably.

"The collected funds must be managed and used properly, so there is no deficit or disruption in the company's financial flow," he remarked.

Improving active participation of the program is in accordance with the Presidential Instruction on the Acceleration of the Eradication of Extreme Poverty.

One of the strategies to expedite the eradication of extreme poverty is to reduce the burden of the community by providing social assistance and social security.

Hence, Amin called on all parties to work hand-in-hand according to their respective capacities and duties for success of GN Lingkaran.

He also lauded BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's initiative to implement GN Lingkaran to provide the Workers Social Security Program for the vulnerable informal sector and other non-wage recipient workers.

He expected that the movement can offer benefits for vulnerable workers nationally.

"Of course, implementation of the protection of vulnerable workers in each region cannot be conducted by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan alone. Cooperation between stakeholders is highly required," he added.
