Waste is a common problem.
Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Denpasar city government along with the military and police have cleaned the mangrove forest area in the Ngurah Rai City Forest and Luhur Candi Narmada Temple ahead of the 2022 G20 Summit.

"We will be hosting the G20 Summit (on November 15–16, 2022). Thus, we have to clean up and protect the surrounding environment so that the implementation of the G20 Summit runs successfully," Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara informed here on Friday.

The activity involved several regional governmental apparatus organizations (OPDs) within the Denpasar city government, village officials, junior high school students, military and police personnel, as well as related stakeholders.

In addition to the mayor, Denpasar city secretary Ida Bagus Alit Wiradana as well as Speaker of the Denpasar City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), I Gusti Ngurah Gede, participated in the activity.

"We hope that the implementation of the G20 can be a momentum to promote Bali, especially Denpasar city, thus it can have a positive impact on the revival of (local) tourism and the economy," the mayor said.

He added that although Friday was the main event of the cleaning activity, his administration will continue to carry out similar activities in the future.

"Waste is a common problem. Thus, not only in the downstream sector, (waste management attempts) in the upstream sector also need to be implemented by waste sorting and making policies to not litter in rivers and the surrounding environment," he said.

On Friday, the participants of the cleaning activity also disbursed basic necessities assistance to urban public transport (locally called ‘angkot’) drivers with the help of the Denpasar City Transportation Office.

Head of the office, Ketut Sriawan, said that the distribution of the aid was an effort by the Denpasar city government to help the community, especially angkot drivers, to reduce their living expenses due to the increase in fuel prices.

The basic necessities assistance included sugar, cooking oil, eggs, instant noodles, and 10 kilograms of rice. The aid was provided to 50 angkot drivers.
