The NPEA construction is important, as the development of NPCT 2 and NPCT 3 would be completed in 2024Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run port operator PT Pelindo Indonesia (Persero) developed the New Priok Eastern Access (NPEA) as a special access to Kalibaru terminal in Cilincing, North Jakarta, to support operations of the New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT).
"The NPEA construction is important, as the development of NPCT 2 and NPCT 3 would be completed in 2024," President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono remarked here on Wednesday.
The company has completed the first phase of the NPCT 1 project, with a capacity of 1.5 million TEUs.
Completion of the NPCT 2 and NPCT 3 projects would bring the total capacity of the terminals in Kalibaru to 4.5 million TEUs, he remarked.

According to Suhartono, access to the seaport, which had only been supported by an arterial road, will not be adequate and queues are likely to form at the port and congestion on the arterial road and the Section E Cikunir Ramp-Cilincing Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) Toll Road.
To address the potential problem of congestion, Pelindo has initiated the construction of a 6.6-kilometer eastern access road, half of which is on land, while the other half is at sea.
The starting point for this paid non-toll road is at kilometer 30 from the direction of the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Road (JTCC) and ends in the Kalibaru area. The two-way road will have three lanes in each direction.
After operating, the special east access road can be reached from the JTCC direction and also from the JORR Section E direction.
Suhartono said, the distance from the Cilincing interchange to the gate of the access road is only about four kilometers.

"Later, there will be an access fee to enter the NPEA. Although it is paid, NPEA is not a toll road. This road is specifically for container trucks that will enter the NPCT area," he stated.
Furthermore, Suhartono said that Pelindo continues to communicate with the Navy and the Archipelago Bonded Zone (KBN), as some of the NPEA will cross the lands of the two institutions.
"Our target is that the construction of NPEA will be completed in mid-2024, along with the completion of the construction of NPCT 2 and NPCT 3," he stated.
This special road will later be accessible from both the JORR Section E and JTCC. The access road will complement other Pelindo projects, such as the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Road.
Construction of the toll road is intended to expedite and accelerate the flow of goods from the east of Jakarta.
The area is the hub of the main industrial area in Indonesia that includes Bekasi and Karawang.
"About 60 percent of the goods going to Tanjung Priok come from this hinterland in the east of Jakarta," he remarked.
