We, in Indonesia, build three ukhuwah (brotherhood) principles...
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin discussed the importance of cooperation in promoting moderate Islam to achieve world peace with the president of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace (ADFP), Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, on Wednesday.

"The current global situation, which is full of challenges, requires commitment from all countries to jointly maintain peace and promote peaceful solutions (to those various challenges),” Amin said during the meeting in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

There have been a number of areas of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE for promoting moderate Islam, for instance, the sending of Indonesian mosque imams to the UAE.

Furthermore, Amin said that Indonesia and the UAE are also working together to construct a replica of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque as well as an Islamic Center in Solo city, Central Java province.

The mosque will be inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his UAE counterpart Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in mid-November 2022, he informed.

Further cooperation between the countries includes a plan to establish a School of Future Studies in Indonesia under a collaboration between Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) and Mohammed bin Zayed University for Humanities (MBZUH).

"I expect the plan to establish this educational institution to be realized soon," the Indonesian Vice President said.

Indonesia and the UAE have the same vision and mission of building a spirit of brotherhood and realizing world peace, he noted.

"We, in Indonesia, build three ukhuwah (brotherhood) principles, namely ukhuwah islamiyah (brotherhood among Muslims), ukhuwah wathoniyah (brotherhood of nation), and ukhuwah insaniyah (brotherhood of mankind). Indonesia also has a mission according to our (1945) Constitution to realize world peace," he added.

Amin said he expects the 9th Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, which will be organized by ADFP on November 8–10, 2022, to further solidify cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE.

"I hope that through this forum, we can realize peace and prosperity in the region and the world together," he added.

Meanwhile, the ADFP president said that his party has assessed that Indonesia has an important role in disseminating the values of tolerance and harmony by promoting moderate Islam.

ADFP is ready to improve cooperation with Indonesia in promoting moderate Islam for world peace, he added.

ADFP was founded in 2014 to respond to a number of challenges faced by the global Muslim community and to strengthen the Islamic theological narrative about building peace and tolerance in the midst of global religious pluralism.
