The KPPPA encourages accessible policies and programs to increase the digital capacity of women
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection noted that literacy is essential to strengthen women's digital capacity and reduce digital inequality for womankind.

"The KPPPA encourages accessible policies and programs to increase the digital capacity of women," Acting Secretary of the ministry's Deputy for Public Participation, Prijadi Santoso, said at the G20 EMPOWER Road to G20 2022 webinar followed online on Wednesday.

The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

The G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women's Economic Representation (G20 EMPOWER) is a working group under the Sherpa Track of Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency, with the objective of expediting women's leadership and empowerment.

He explained that improving the digital capacity of women can push their active participation in the economic sector.

"Moreover, the current era uses digital technology more at work, for example, remote work and flexible workspaces," he pointed out.

In addition, digital technology has been widely utilized in business development and virtual transactions.

"To support women's empowerment, women's access to the use of digital tools needs to be improved. Moreover, future job models will involve the ability to adapt digital technology-based jobs," he explained.

He further noted that the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection continues to push for gender equality in digitalization in a bid to reduce gender inequality and improve women's readiness for future work.

"Women's participation in digital technology needs to be expanded because it is a component of the future of the economy that can contribute to the country's economic growth," he remarked.

At Wednesday’s webinar, Santoso also highlighted the vital role of companies in supporting gender equality at the workplace.

"Companies have an important role in the program of women's empowerment and gender equality," he stated.
