Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will continue to encourage creative economy players to upgrade themselves, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo stated.

"The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry will continue to support and strive to improve the quality of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia through events like this, and one of them is the Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement (Gernas BBI)," Tanoesoedibjo remarked while attending an exhibition that featured products of MSMEs and local brands here on Saturday.

The deputy minister noted that over 99.9 percent of business players in the country are in the MSME sector. The sector absorbs 97 percent of the total national workforce and contributes 57 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

"This phenomenon explains that MSMEs are productive businesses in supporting the macro and micro economy in Indonesia as well as influencing other sectors to develop," Tanoesoedibjo remarked.

She expressed optimism that creative economy business actors can see several events as a platform to take on a role in the development of MSMEs.

At the exhibition, Tanoesoedibjo sampled several products from MSME players, including the popular coffee-based beverage liked by the younger generation.

Consumers at the exhibition were encouraged to choose local products over foreign ones as a form of empowering domestic resources and fostering a sense of pride in local items.

According to the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), the government needs to prioritize assistance for MSMEs in the manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and creative economy sectors.

MSMEs in the creative economy sector need to improve the quality of digital services and human resources as well as integrate research, design, and development with the modernization of other sectors, INDEF Vice Director Eko Listiyanto explained.

Financing for MSMEs in the creative economy sector can also be developed not only through banking but also crowdfunding, venture capital, and angel investment, he stated.
