Thanks to the stunting reduction acceleration team, the survey's temporary results show that the stunting rate in South Kalimantan in 2022 has dropped to 20 percent
Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan provincial government has succeeded in reducing the rate of stunting cases, from 30 percent to 20 percent in 2022.

"Thanks to the stunting reduction acceleration team, the survey's temporary results show that the stunting rate in South Kalimantan in 2022 has dropped to 20 percent," Head of the South Kalimantan National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Ramlan noted here on Tuesday.

Earlier, the province's stunting rate had reached 30 percent, or around 1,500 cases, ranking sixth in terms of the most number of cases of stunting in Indonesia, he stated.

There are different problems in each district and city faced by the stunting reduction acceleration team in South Kalimantan, he remarked.

He noted that stunting prevention is conducted from the upstream level by forming 372 assistance teams, each comprising village midwives, family planning cadres, and Family Welfare Movement (PKK) cadres, who accompany future brides and grooms, pregnant women, newborn mothers, and babies.

As one of the provinces, with the highest stunting rate in Indonesia, South Kalimantan should move quickly to achieve the national target of reducing the stunting rate to 18.4 percent in 2022 and 14 percent in 2024, South Kalimantan Provincial Assistant Nurul Fajar Desira remarked.

According to Desira, through the Stunting Case Audit (AKS), good performance in reducing stunting can be maintained, and all challenges can be solved together.

In addition, the mechanism for handling stunting in some areas, with a high prevalence of stunting, must be even more massive, he emphasized.

The provincial government also urged related parties to immediately handle severe cases of stunting if found in regions.

"I hope that stunting can be prevented and handled as soon as possible, considering that it is already entering the second month of the final quarter of 2022," Desira concluded.
