Karnavian, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, inaugurated Apolo Safanpo as acting governor of South Papua, Nikolaus Kondomo as acting governor of Highland Papua, and Ribka Haluk as acting governor of Central Papua in a ceremony at the ministry office here, Friday.
After reading Presidential Decision No. 115/P/2022 as the legal basis for the appointment of acting governors, the minister read the oath of office, repeated by the inducted acting governors.
In his remarks, the minister expressed confidence that the three new acting governors would perform their duties properly.
"I believe all of you will perform your duties properly according to your responsibilities," Karnavian stated.
Before they were appointed as acting governors, Safanpo served as rector of Papua's Cenderawasih University, while Kondomo served as head of the Papua Provincial Attorney Office, and Haluk served as head of the Papua Social, Population, and Civil Records Office.
Following the House of Representatives' (DPR's) enactment of the three laws on June 30, 2022, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) validated those three new autonomous provinces on July 25, 2022.
The laws stipulate that President Jokowi should appoint acting governors within six months after the enactment of the laws. They will be in power until regional elections are held to elect the definitive pairs of governor and deputy governor.
Soon after their inauguration, the acting governors will commence their administrative works. The laws also mandate them to facilitate the formation of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) and Papuan People's Representatives' Council (DPRP).
The laws also mandate them to facilitate the convening of regional elections for electing the definitive pairs of governor and deputy governor as well as to manage their respective provincial budgets.
