"Since November 2, 2022, until now, or the last two weeks, a decline in cases occurred, meaning that the cases did not increase. Thus, it (the tally) remains at 324 cases in the last two weeks," he noted in a press conference followed online here on Wednesday.
Syahril expounded that as of November 15, 2022, cases of AKI in children were found in 27 Indonesian provinces.
According to government data, of the 324 cases of AKI in children, 111 patients recovered, 199 died, and 14 are still undergoing treatment.
"Some 14 are still treated at RSCM (Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital). They are in the stage 3 category or the most severe. The kidney damage is quite severe with other conditions, but there are no comorbidities because they are still children," Syahril remarked.
He further explained that one of the interventions made by the Indonesian government that had contributed to a decline in AKI cases is the temporary ban on the use of syrup medicines implemented since October 18, 2022.
Moreover, the National Agency for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) has released the list of medicines that are safe to be consumed on October 23, 2022.Moreover, the government has distributed 16 vials of Fomepizole on October 25, 2022, and 100 vials of Fomepizole on October 30, 2022, to support the treatment of AKI patients.
"For now, there is still a supply of Fomepizole that is ready to be sent to regions that need it. We have not yet ordered more (vials)," the spokesperson remarked.
