Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Office of Yogyakarta is aiming to achieve 50 percent coverage for the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of 2022.



"(Booster) Vaccination has reached 44 percent. Inshallah (if God wills), it can reach 50 percent by the end of this year," head of disease prevention and control at the office, Setyarini Hestu Lestari, said here on Monday.



To achieve the goal, booster vaccination has continued to be expedited in five districts and cities using the currently available vaccine supply, she informed.

Meanwhile, head of health human resources at the Yogyakarta Health Office, Agus Priyanta, said that as of November 20, 2022, Yogyakarta's booster vaccination coverage has reached 44.34 percent or 1,271,731 of the 3,181,285 targeted recipients.



From the total, the region that has recorded the highest coverage is Yogyakarta city at 105.34 percent, followed by Sleman district (47.68 percent), Gunung Kidul district (37.66 percent), Kulon Progo district (30.04 percent), and Bantul district (28.51 percent).



Priyanta further said that, especially among older adults, the booster vaccination coverage has reached 39.55 percent or 187,105.



Meanwhile, among adolescents, the coverage has so far only reached 9.25 percent or 28,834 of the 311,596 targeted recipients.

According to him, the fourth dose or second booster is only being administered to health workers, and as of November 20, its coverage has reached 26,958, or 79.76 percent of the targeted health workers.



As part of efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021, targeting as many as 234,666,020 citizens.



According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, as of November 21, 2022, as many as 205,318,844 Indonesians have received the first vaccine dose, 172,247,755 have been administered the second dose, 66,158,381 have taken the third dose or first booster, and 726,908 have received the fourth dose or second booster.
