In a press statement received here on Wednesday, Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini said that the integrated water treatment plant was built in Gombang Village, Ponjong Sub-district, which often experiences drought.
The plant, which was built under the Social Harmony Program, was inaugurated on Monday (November 21, 2022).
With the installation of the plant, the residents of Gombang Village, who previously had to use calcareous water, can now enjoy clean water.
Earlier, the ministry conducted a survey to determine the location of the integrated water treatment plant in the village.
"Even though my team reported that the withdrawal location was far away, I decided we had to continue our work. The difficulties were insignificant compared to the needs and benefits for the community," the minister said.
She informed that integrated water treatment plants have been installed in Ketonggo and Pakrandu Hamlets in Gombang Village and more will be installed in other hamlets.
"We plan to install it in nine hamlets, we have installed in two hamlets. We hope to finish the installment in the near future," she added.
Meanwhile, Director of Social Protection for Victims of Non-natural Social Disasters at the ministry Mira Riyati Kurniasih said that the integrated water treatment plant can produce 12 thousand liters or 600 gallons of water every day for residents.
The solar-powered water treatment installation consists of water filters; separator equipment for iron, lime, sludge, and other types of waste; and a bacteria exterminator to distribute clean water to residents' homes.
"Especially for the installation in Pakrandu Hamlet, the water can even be used directly for drinking without needing to be boiled," Kurniasih explained.
According to her, as many as 90 families are enjoying the clean water from the water treatment installation in Gombang Village.
Further, the Ministry of Social Affairs has also provided assistance in the form of 20 goats and sorghum seeds to support efforts to improve the economy of the village’s residents.
