Although helping their parents is a good thing (to do), still, children must continue to develop and have their rights fulfilled.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Minister Bintang Puspayoga launched the 16 Days of Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (16HAKTPA) campaign here on Friday, (November 25, 2022).

"You (the children) can participate in preventing all kinds of violence in your surroundings, and we (the PPPA Ministry) hope that you would actively become pioneers (to fight violence) and reports (if there is any violence),” she said in a statement on Saturday.

The campaign is being implemented from November 25 to December 10, 2022.

Kalibaru Village, Cilincing Sub-district, Jakarta, was chosen as the first location for the 16HAKTPA campaign since there were many students that also helped their parents, working as fishermen, to peel green mussels every day.

"Although helping their parents is a good thing (to do), still, children must continue to develop and have their rights fulfilled," the minister noted.

Hence, she appealed to parents to pay attention to fulfilling their children's rights to ensure that the kids are protected from violence and exploitation.

"Although the children actively help their parents in the economic sector, it must not be forgotten that their basic rights as a child must be met. Children everywhere have the right to identity, good health, education, being involved in development, having their voices heard, growing, playing, and having fun," she affirmed.

Puspayoga has also emphasized that children are the next generation of the nation, so it is important to fulfil their rights.

Furthermore, she encouraged children to keep their spirits high in pursuing their goals and to avoid negative behavior.

"Kids, (you should) never give up. Stay passionate in pursuing your goals. In your social relations at home, school, or anywhere else, please avoid negative behaviors, such as bullying," she stressed.

On the occasion, the PPPA Ministry also provided child-specific assistance and psychosocial services to elementary school children, who were actively involved in helping their parents in their business.
