Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2022 Mayors and Governors Meeting of the ASEAN Capital (MGMAC) chose Jakarta to be the host for the 2023 MGMAC.

This decision was taken at the 2022 MGMAC in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Friday, as part of the ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF 2022), Jakarta Provincial Government's official, Marulina Dewi, noted in a statement, Sunday.

Jakarta's provincial government supports the exchange of development practice, knowledge, and experience that includes urban development between ASEAN capital cities.

On the occasion, her side outlined Jakarta's transformation in transportation, public service, and digital city and its commitment to creating these changes, including supporting collaboration between ASEAN local governments in developing ASEAN's "Connectivity" vision.

"Through cooperation with the ASEAN framework, Jakarta's provincial government seeks to continue to reform itself to realize a vision of a sustainable and liveable Jakarta," she stated.

As a Collaboration City, Jakarta welcomes cooperation initiatives from local and international partners to develop the city as a better place to live, she remarked.

Dewi also accepted the 2023 MGMAC host handover from the governor of Phnom Penh, as the host of the 2022 MGMAC.

The official took the opportunity to notify that the Jakarta Provincial Government invites governors, mayors, and regional leaders in ASEAN to participate in the 2023 MGMAC in Jakarta.

MGMAC was initiated by Joko Widodo as the governor of Jakarta in 2023.

MGMAC serves as a platform for ASEAN countries' capital city leaders to discuss development ideas and practices as well as a mechanism to strengthen collaboration between cities.

This year's MGMAC was chaired by Governor of Phnom Penh Khuong Sreng and was attended by several governors, mayors, and high-ranking officials.
