Villages on Java Island can even contribute to the village's original income through village-owned enterprises to up to 2 billion
Punjung Island, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Village-owned enterprises are contributing to the improvement of community welfare at the village level, the Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry has said.

"I inform that there are five of the national programs that must be translated by the wali nagari (traditional village heads), one of which is improving the economy through these village-owned enterprises," Deputy Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Budi Ari Setiadi said at the inauguration of 42 village leaders elected in the simultaneous Wali Nagari Election in Dharmasraya district, West Sumatra, on Thursday.

The ministry is encouraging the nagari in Dharmasraya district to develop such enterprises as a means to support the village economy, he added.

He gave the example of several villages on Java Island that have successfully managed village-owned businesses, thus generating additional original income.

"Villages on Java Island can even contribute to the village's original income through village-owned enterprises to up to 2 billion. I'm sure the nagari in Dharmasraya will also have village-owned enterprises that can become tokens of pride in the future," he said.

He further said that there are national programs that must translate to the village level, including programs related to building food security, eradicating extreme poverty, reducing stunting rates, and carrying out digital transformation in public services.

The deputy minister advised all newly appointed leaders to put aside their differences and embrace everyone following the elections that were held some time ago.

Meanwhile, the head of Dharmasraya district Sutan Riska Tuanku urged them to ensure that services and activities run accordingly, and asked them to work for the sake of the community and the progress of the village.

"Therefore, you have to rekindle the spirit of togetherness and diversity in unity in the midst of society. Maintain public order and security so that conditions are always conducive," he said.

He further said he expected the deputy minister's visit to the area to motivate the new leaders.
