Jakarta (ANTARA) - Around 300 vaccination centers are operating daily in Jakarta to support the acceleration of the third and fourth dose COVID-19 vaccinations, the Jakarta Health Office's surveillance, epidemiology, and immunization head, Ngabila Salama, informed here on Friday.

The Jakarta provincial government has also opened afternoon and evening vaccinations at 44 sub-district public health centers (puskesmas), which are operating from 4–8 p.m. local time.

Saturday and Sunday vaccination services have been made available at several strategic locations such as Lapangan Banteng Park, Kota Kasablanka Mall, and Green Pramuka Square.

The Jakarta Health Office said it expects the availability of the centers to help expedite vaccinations among health workers and the elderly population

The coverage of the first COVID-19 dose in Jakarta has so far reached 12.7 million or 135.28 percent of the 10-million target.

According to the Jakarta Health Office, COVID-19 cases have remained under control in the two weeks ended December 8, 2022, with the number of positive cases recorded at 883.

The figure is lower compared to several weeks ago when the number of infections had crossed one thousand.

Despite this, the office urged people to implement the health protocols since potential infections caused by new COVID-19 variants, including the BN.1 variant, need to be watched out for.

As per the Jakarta Health Office’s records, 24 BN.1 cases have been detected in the period from October 24 to December 8.
