"The fulfillment and promotion of human rights (limited to) deep awareness, without the efforts of the state, government, and all of us to make it happen, will result in human rights being (just on paper)," Laoly stated here on Monday.
The minister made the remarks at the peak of the commemoration of World Human Rights Day 2022 that brought up the theme of "Advancement of Human Rights for Everyone Towards a Developed Indonesia."
"The theme of the commemoration of Human Rights Day in Indonesia has a (profound) meaning," he noted.
The theme this year, which was selected by the United Nations (UN), showed the equal rights of every human being in dignity, freedom, and justice, he stated. Human rights have become an inseparable mandate.
He stated that the theme of the commemoration of World Human Rights Day was promoted by the Indonesian government to ensure that development was thoroughly inclusive.
This began with improvement in the data collection system for vulnerable and marginal groups as a basis for affirmative policies, shifting the perspective of charity to a human rights-based approach, and ensuring that every vulnerable and marginal group has access to the highest quality human rights.
In the midst of challenges plaguing the nation, especially in the efforts to uphold human rights, Indonesia was commended by the international community at the Universal Periodical Review session in Geneva, Switzerland.
Indonesia drew praises for its commitment to continue implementing the National Action Plan for Human Rights until the fifth period. The government, through the ministry, remains committed to conducting various human rights promotion programs.
Support for fulfillment and promotion of human rights by government institutions, both at the central and regional levels, remains a priority for human rights promotion programs.
"It is this commitment that continues to motivate the Law and Human Rights Ministry to (contribute) through various policies and programs," he said.
Programs that have been implemented comprise the National Human Rights Action Plan, Districts and Cities for Human Rights, Human Rights Development Index, Human Rights-Based Public Services, PRISMA HAM, as well as a complaint mechanism and handling cases of alleged human rights violations.
"The program is so that citizens can experience the benefits of these policies and programs in-person," he concluded.
