The construction of the 4G BTS is one of the government's attempts to encourage inclusive digital economic growth for people living in the 3T regions in Papua.
Biak, Papua (ANTARA) - The Telecommunication and Informatics Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Communication and Informatics Ministry built 13 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) throughout 2022 to improve internet access for villagers in Biak Numfor District, Papua Province.

Acting Head of the Biak Numfor Communication and Information Office Mukhlis Salepu stated here on Monday that as of December 2022, the construction of all of the new BTS had been fully completed to provide internet access to people in the underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) area.

"We are grateful to the central government, especially the Communication and Informatics Ministry, for establishing 13 new BTS in Biak Numfor District, which have been 100-percent completed," he remarked.

Hence, the central government had built 116 BTS throughout the district as of 2022, including the newly constructed ones, he noted.

The office acting head noted that development of the new communication facilities aims to fulfil the needs of residents of various villages in the region to enjoy quality telecommunication networks.

"Construction of the 4G BTS is one of the government's attempts to encourage inclusive digital economic growth for people living in the 3T regions in Papua," he stated.

Hence, he invited all community members to partake in maintaining and looking after the established BTS in their respective villages since they benefited from the stations in obtaining communication services and internet access provided by the government.

“By establishing the BTS, village residents can communicate with family, relatives, and friends outside Biak Numfor District and even abroad," Salepu noted.

He remarked that the government strives to realize equitable basic infrastructure development throughout Indonesia, especially in the communication and information sector, by building new BTS facilities to serve the needs of the 3T community.

Currently, the Communication and Informatics Ministry is implementing the Palapa Ring Integration Project that aims to integrate the existing western, central, and eastern Palapa Ring backbone telecommunication network end-to-end as well as to optimize the utilization of the existing network.

The Palapa Ring Integration project will cover 78 districts and cities in 14 provinces, including Papua.
