Do not forget to keep innovating because the (coffee shop) trend is still growing.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director of courses and training at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Wartanto, has urged all course and training agencies to provide barista training given the growth of coffee shops of late.

“The coffee shops business opportunity is rising. Hence, it is necessary to push for more implementation of barista courses and trainings,” he said at a webinar entitled "Chatting at the Shop: Capturing the Latest Coffee Business Trends through the Entrepreneurial Skills Education Program,” according to a statement issued on Monday.

According to the ministry’s data, the number of people seeking barista training has registered an increase. In the three-year period from 2020 to 2022, the number of barista course students reached 455, 1,075, and 1,130, respectively.

"I hope that the training program will continue to be strengthened and adjust to the demands over time. Do not forget to keep innovating because the (coffee shop) trend is still growing," the director said.

He gave some examples of innovative contemporary coffee products, which have continued to be developed as a trend, such as the mixing of coffee with avocado, milk, and so on.

A barista instructor as well as the owner of Filbert Course and Training Agency (LKP), Rendro Wijoyo, said that the current coffee business trend has opened huge working opportunities for graduates of the barista skill entrepreneurial training program.

He noted that the opportunities are not only rising in big cities, but also in various rural areas, as currently, the business players are starting to explore the potential of native coffee products.

“It becomes a trend that opens up great opportunities. Moreover, so far, there have been many coffee shops without baristas. Hence, the demand for baristas is very high," he added.

However, Wijoyo said that there are several things that LKP must consider in providing the barista skill entrepreneurial training program, namely the supporting facilities and infrastructure must comply with industry standards.

The LKP should also establish strong cooperation with the industry and business players, thus the graduates of the barista training program are truly competent and ready to work in the entrepreneurship sector, he added.
