"Some 402 aircraft units will be operated during the year-end holiday period, yet it will be less compared to 2019 when 650 aircraft (were kept on) standby. (This year's aircraft strength) is only 62 percent of the pre-pandemic numbers," Fahmi informed during a hearing meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday.
He said that API has predicted an increase in flight ticket prices due to the limited number of aircraft deployed by airlines affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that must cater to the increasing demand for flights.
AP I has prepared special posts that will be operational for 16 days from December 19, 2022, to January 3, 2023, he confirmed.
"We project that the outcoming exodus will peak on December 23 to 26, while the return exodus will peak from December 30, 2022, to January 2, 2023," Fahmi disclosed.
The company has coordinated with the relevant stakeholders, such as the military and the police, the Search and Rescue Agency, and other institutions, to set up a national integrated command center and joint posts at 15 airports as well as conduct joint monitoring of the posts, he said.
A total of 4,152 personnel, comprising 3,982 internal personnel and 170 external personnel, will be assigned to the special posts at airports, he added.
He informed that the four airports that are expected to serve the highest number of travelers during the period are Makassar, Denpasar, Surabaya, and Balikpapan airports.
"We have also arranged the operational hours (during the period). In principle, all airports operated by AP I will be ready to operate for 24 hours, but we will adjust the operation with existing flights," Fahmi said.
The company has also prepared 2,420 airport taxis, 578 online taxis, 220 rented cars, 662 minivans, and airport trains on 30 operational routes, he said.
