Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani on Thursday outlined DPR’s achievements during the second session period of the 2022–2023 session year.

"DPR and the government have passed six bills into law in this session period, as well as 13 bills currently under deliberation on its first reading," Maharani said in her remarks during a plenary session at the Parliament Complex here on Thursday.

She pointed out that one of the milestones of the current session has been the successful ratification of the strategic Criminal Code Bill into law.

The legislature has included 259 bills in the fourth amendment to the 2020–2024 national legislative program, of which 39 have been designated as priority bills, the speaker noted.

"In detail, (they comprise) 25 bills proposed by the DPR, 11 bills proposed by the government, and 3 bills proposed by the Regional Representatives Council (DPD)," Maharani said.

Meanwhile, the parliament has also been attentive to several issues during the second session period, including the polio outbreak and polio vaccine administration, the atypical acute kidney failure cases in children, extreme weather and disaster mitigation, as well as contract government teachers, she informed.

"Moreover, issues on analogue television broadcast blank spot and shortcomings in the distribution of set-top box units, as well as handling of over-dimension and over-load trucks (have also been the DPR’s focus)," the speaker said.

Further, the parliament has approved Admiral Yudo Margono's appointment as the new Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) Commander, commissioners of the Indonesia Child Protection Commission (KPAI) for the 2022–2027 period, Indonesian citizenship for Dutch footballer Shayne Elian Jay Pattynama, and Indonesian ambassadors during the session period, Maharani noted.

The parliament has also conducted parliamentary diplomacy during the session period, including through meetings with delegations from the Romanian and Japanese parliaments, she added.

DPR delegates also attended the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last November, to voice national and regional interests, the speaker said, adding that DPR is ready to host the 44th AIPA General Assembly after taking over the presidency from Cambodia.
