East Kalimantan Balitbangda acting head Fitriansyah stated that 78.19 percent of the residents supported the national capital relocation to their home districts.
“The research is conducted by East Kalimantan Balitbangda researchers at four sub-districts within the future capital territory in two districts, North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara,” Fitriansyah stated here, Friday (December 16).
The research was conducted at Sepaku Sub-district in North Penajam Paser and Loa Kulu, Samboja, and Muara Jawa sub-districts in Kutai Kartanegara, he noted.
Of the 400 respondents, some 13.78 percent indicated that they “very agree” to the relocation of the national capital to their home district, while 64.41 percent “agree”. It deduced that a total of 78.19 percent approved the capital relocation, the agency head stated.
Meanwhile, 4.26 percent of the respondents answered "disagree," while 17.54 percent answered "neutral" on the issue, he remarked.
He said that the research result concluded that most residents approved the relocation of the national capital to East Kalimantan, as they believed the development would benefit their region.
"Moreover, residents also pointed out three risks in the new capital development, those being national security and defense, agrarian conflicts, and social conflicts. They are also convinced that the government is working to address those issues," Fitriansyah stated.
Meanwhile, agency researcher Yuli Fitrianto said that the 400 respondents were adults over 17 years of age from various professional backgrounds, such as students, farmers, youth activists, local figures, entrepreneurs, and state apparatuses.
Apart from inquiring about the perception of support for the new capital development, the research also asked respondents about the new capital development continuity, the development benefits to technology and communication, and other questions.
"The samples we use to calculate are through the Slovin formula, while the margin of error of this research is five percent," Fitrianto remarked.
