Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Public Order Security Agency (Satpol PP) deployed 1,406 personnel to offer security on December 19-25, 2022, Chief of Jakarta Satpol PP Arifin stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

"For Christmas, we place personnel at 429 churches that became our attention," he remarked.

In Central Jakarta, 48 churches are secured with support from 310 Jakarta Satpol PP officers. Meanwhile, in North Jakarta, a total of 262 Satpol PP officials secure 134 churches.

Meanwhile, 50 churches in West Jakarta are secured with personnel reaching 264 people. In East Jakarta, 360 personnel secure 152 churches, while 180 personnel are stationed to secure 45 churches in South Jakarta.

"We assign all members to ensure that all religious activities and Christmas celebrations can proceed in a safe, smooth, and orderly fashion, and we always urge the people to comply with the health protocols," he remarked.

Jakarta Satpol PP also provides security for the Christmas Carol activity at three locations: Kendal Tunnel, Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) specifically in front of Plaza Indonesia, and Kota Tua.

The Christmas Carol is held on December 19-23, 2022, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Satpol PP assigned 490 personnel to help with security for the New Year.

Satpol PP will also be involved in securing the Sudirman-Thamrin route during car-free night, Arifin noted.

For this event, the agency will help the police and Jakarta Transportation Service in blocking traffic flow and arranging the zone for street vendors.

The plan is to have a vehicle-free zone along Sudirman-Thamrin throughout New Year's night, starting from 8 p.m. local time.

Satpol PP officers will also be placed at several public spaces that can likely be crowded with people.

Areas prone to crowding include Kota Tua, Lake Sunter in North Jakarta, China Town at Pantai Indah Kapuk II, East Banjir Canal, Bulungan in South Jakarta, and several large mosques in Central Jakarta.
