"In accordance with the acting governor’s directive, Pasar Minggu Hospital will become a referral (hospital) for cancer (patients) in Jakarta, so we are preparing the equipment and human resources (HR)," head of the Jakarta Health Office, Widyastuti, said here on Wednesday.
She informed that Pasar Minggu RSUD will not only serve the capital city’s residents, but also temporarily cater to cancer patients referred from outside Jakarta.
According to her, other than additional cancer treatment rooms and medical equipment, the hospital will also get radiotherapy experts and special oncology devices to improve services.
The Jakarta provincial government is committed to enhancing the treatment and recovery of cancer patients in order to realize a healthy and cancer-free city.
President Director of Pasar Minggu Hospital, Endah Kartika Dewi, said that the radiotherapy service is among the cancer treatments that are new in Jakarta.
Furthermore, Pasar Minggu Hospital will add brachytherapy services and medical personnel to treat patients suffering from cervical cancer, whose incidence is rising in Jakarta.
Currently, the hospital has three specialist doctors, two medical physicists. and four radiographers, and their number will increase, Dewi said.
"We also accept many referred patients from outside Jakarta and the equipment we have is the most advanced one," she added.
Based on data from the Global Cancer Observatory, in 2020, breast cancer incidence in Indonesia was recorded at 16.6 percent, cervical cancer at 9.2 percent, lung cancer at 8.8 percent, colorectal cancer at 8.6 percent, and prostate cancer at 7.4 percent.
