The cooperation was forged between Director General of Law Enforcement at the Environment and Forestry Ministry and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Finance Ministry.
They inked the cooperation agreement on Law Enforcement Synergy in the Environment and Forestry Sector within Customs that was conducted during the ceremony to commemorate the 56th Anniversary of the Forestry Police here on Wednesday.
Director General of Law Enforcement at the Environment and Forestry Ministry Rasio Ridho Sani noted that the cooperation was a form of the government's commitment to ensure that efforts to protect forest resources were made properly.
"Starting from upstream, we will (conduct efforts ranging from) area protection up to law enforcement, including gatekeeping the entry and exit of our forest products," Sani remarked.
This cooperation covers the exchange and utilization of data and information; mapping of customs vulnerabilities; collective prevention, surveillance, and prosecution; handling cases together and safeguarding the results of law enforcement against export and import violations related to the environment and forestry sector; as well as increasing the capacity of human resources.
"This collaboration can improve our capacity to ensure that enforcement or law enforcement related to environmental and forestry crimes are capable of being further improved," he noted.
He highlighted that in particular, this cooperation was vital to prevent the distribution of products from forest crimes, such as the transport of illegal timber and animal smuggling.
This cooperation is also conducted to ensure the prevention of the entry of B3 waste and garbage into the Indonesian territory.
