The government has committed itself to be present to ensure (the transition of) food resilience to food sovereignty for the benefit of the people's welfare.Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - Food supplies in regions across Indonesia are stable ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, Vice Agriculture Minister Harvick Hasnul Qolbi has said.
"The government has committed itself to be present to ensure (the transition of) food resilience to food sovereignty for the benefit of the people's welfare," he said while attending a food resilience action movement in East Lampung on Thursday.
He assured that food supplies are sufficient to meet the people's needs and consumption during Christmas and New Year celebrations
"Ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations and holidays there must be food price hike. But during (my) working visits to several regions, (I) called for efforts to maintain the stability of food supplies and commodity prices," he informed.
If food supplies and prices are stable, then the people's purchasing power can be maintained, he said.
"The supplies must always be maintained so the people's purchasing power can be maintained accordingly. Right now, all are stable," he added.
To maintain food resilience, the public's assistance is needed to implement the government's program, he said.
"To maintain and develop food sovereignty and resilience, we need the public's assistance to implement the government's program quickly," he added.
As part of efforts to keep food supplies stable and improve agricultural productivity, the government has handed over a corn drying machine with a capacity of 20 tons to corn farmers in East Lampung, he said.
The assistance has also included one rotavator, two corn shellers, two cultivators, and 320 tons of hybrid corn seeds.
