Throughout 2022, BNN uncovered 17 money laundering cases, with 20 suspects, and total assets of Rp33.8 billion
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Head Commissioner General of Police Petrus Reinhard Golose revealed that the agency seized 1.902 tons of methamphetamine, 1.06 tons marijuana, 262,789 ecstasy pills, and 16.5 kilograms of powdered ecstasy in 2022.

"BNN confiscated some pieces of evidence of narcotics of which three that dominated the lot were crystal methamphetamine, weighing 1.902 tons; marijuana, weighing 1.06 tons; and 262,789 ecstasy tablets; and 16.5 kg of powdered ecstasy," Golose stated at the agency's office here on Thursday.

The agency also destroyed 152.8 tons of wet cannabis in a 63.9-hectare plot of cannabis narcotics plantation.

"From the total amount of evidences confiscated, the BNN managed to save 12.2 million citizens from the dangers of narcotics abuse," he stated.

All the evidence had been obtained from 768 cases of criminal acts of narcotics and the precursors.

The number of suspects in the 768 cases reached 1,209 people. The agency also brought to light two cases of clandestine laboratory involving five suspects.

He noted that efforts to eradicate narcotics syndicates were always followed up with investigation into money laundering cases.

The purpose of this follow-up is to deprive the dealer off their resources.

"Throughout 2022, BNN uncovered 17 money laundering cases, with 20 suspects, and total assets of Rp33.8 billion," he stated.

Efforts to eradicate the narcotics syndicate network are part of the agency's hard power approach strategy in fighting narcotics.

They also adopt other methods, such as the soft power approach that includes prevention and community empowerment as well as the smart power approach that makes use of information technology and research to support efforts in the war against drugs.
