Jakarta (ANTARA) - The financing mechanism for COVID-19 patients will be equalized with that for other diseases from 2023, Head of the Health Ministry's Public Communication and Service Bureau Siti Nadia Tarmizi said here on Friday.

"Starting from 2023, the Home Affairs Minister’s Instruction on community activities restrictions (PPKM) will not dictate COVID-19 patient financing, only community activity restrictions," she informed.

The financing mechanism for COVID-19 patients will be based on the conditions set by the National Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) independently as well as private insurance services.

"It will follow the financing regulation like other diseases," she added.

On a separate occasion, president director of BPJS Kesehatan, Ghufron Mukti, informed that the agency will cover the costs borne by COVID-19 patients once the endemic status is declared.

"The financing mechanism will certainly use INA-CBG based on the diagnosis group," he said.

The INA-CBG is an application for the submission of claims by hospitals, health centers, and all health service providers (PPKs) for Indonesia's underprivileged population.

COVID-19 patients' treatment costs are still being covered by the state currently, in accordance with the Health Minister’s Decree No. 104 of 2020.

A number of cost components are excluded from this, such as when a patient or their family seek to get better service or when a patient wants to receive service from components that the government covers.

The government will no longer allocate a special budget for pandemic handling in 2023. However, the regular health budget is still projected to increase next year.

The Finance Ministry will increase the health budget to Rp168.4 trillion in the 2023 state budget draft from Rp133 trillion this year.

The additional regular health budget is intended to help strengthen the health system in Indonesia, which is focusing on realizing a health system transformation.
