Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is committed to organizing the 2024 General Elections under the open-list proportional representation system, according to resolutions of the hearing meeting of the House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Commission II.

"KPU is committed to organizing the 2024 General Elections according to Law No. 7 of 2017 on Election, which mandates the open-list proportional representation system," DPR RI Commission II Chair Ahmad Doli Kurnia stated while reading the conclusion of the hearing meeting at the Parliament Complex here, Wednesday (January 11).

The parliamentary hearing meeting, with attendees comprising Home Minister Tito Karnavian and representatives of KPU, General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and General Elections Organiser Honorary Council (DKPP), took place from 2 p.m. to 9:06 p.m. local time (UTC +7).

Kurnia noted that all parties at the meeting concurred on organizing the 2024 General Elections under the prevailing Election Law.

As per the meeting resolution, the DPR RI Commission II reminded the KPU to work to the best of its abilities according to functions, duties, and authorities conferred on the electoral organizer in accordance with the law, the commission chair stated.

"According to the Election Law, KPU is the institution authorized to implement election organization duties," Kurnia noted.

The KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP should also maintain integrity, independence, and professional election organization to ensure success in the 2024 General Elections, he remarked.

The parliamentary commission also urged Bawaslu to name a definite secretary general to help the agency address internal issues to bolster the agency's works and regulate apparatus and administration affairs.

The meeting also concurred that electoral districts for the House of Representatives and regional legislatures candidates remain unchanged according to Appendix III and IV on the Election Law and its derivatives.

"Meanwhile, electoral districts for municipal and district legislatures would be deliberated collectively later," the commission chair remarked.
