Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday asked participants of the “2023 National Coordination Meeting of Regional Heads and Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda)” at Sentul International Convention Center, Bogor, to make the right policies.

The President stressed the importance of making the right policies to jointly continue the positive trend of economic growth, which is estimated to reach 5.2 or 5.3 percent in 2022 on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis.

"Our economy is in a good position. We estimate (growth) of 5.2 or 5.3 percent in 2022 compared to the same period the previous year," Widodo said in his opening remarks, which were broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

The temporary projection of economic growth is a major achievement amid the global situation, which is still overshadowed by uncertainty, he added.

In particular, Widodo highlighted Indonesia’s economic growth of 5.72 percent in the third quarter of 2022, which was far better than most other countries in the world.

"However, even though we could go through a year of economic turbulence in 2022, we need to be careful because 2023 will still be a year full of challenges for our economy and also for the global economy," he said.

Therefore, the President stressed the importance of avoiding mistakes in policy making.

He reminded all parties to be careful and prioritize data and facts while devising policies.

"So, be careful. Everyone must be careful. Everyone must work hard to detect information and data on the ground, so that we are not mistaken in making policies," Widodo said.

"No matter how small, the policy must be based on data and facts on the ground," he added.

The President also expressed his gratitude to the ranks of regional heads and Forkopimda for their joint hard work in handling the COVID-19 pandemic as well as relatively successful efforts to maintain the positive trend of economic stability.
