Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will host the sub-national dissemination of information on Indonesia's Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 on February 1-2, 2023, in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District.

"This dissemination of information is aimed at conveying policies, strategies, and plans for the implementation of mitigation action plans that refer to the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions," Head of the province's Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) Arief Mahmud told reporters here on Friday.

Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 is the government's target to balance or even increase the greenhouse gas emission absorption in the forestry and land use sector.

He explained that Indonesia is the first country in the world that is committed to unconditionally reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 29 percent by 2030.

In order to implement the policy, he said, the central government encourages local governments to play an active role as policymakers in the regions to develop their work plans respectively, therefore encouraging the acceleration of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 targets.

To this end, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry held a series of activities and workshops for the dissemination of information at the regional and sub-national levels in 22 provinces in 2023 starting from East Nusa Tenggara.

The activity will be attended by all representatives of 34 provincial governments in the country, NTT's governor, district heads, and mayors, as well as related regional apparatus organizations.

On that occasion, NTT's Head of the Environment and Forestry Office, Ondy Christian, stated that the FOLU Net Sink 2030 popularization activities were started in 2021, with 12 provinces targeted, and continued in 2023 by targeting 22 other provinces.

"This year (2023), the kick-off starts from NTT, and the provincial government enthusiastically welcomes this activity," he remarked.

Christian revealed that his side will hold discussions and prepare a work plan in reducing carbon emissions through the combination of national and regional programs.
