"This race is progressing day by day, (in the previous series), the participants were from the Greater Jakarta area, (though) now, they come from outside the area and outside Java," Greater Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran stated here on Saturday.
According to Imran, the fifth street race held by the Metro Police on January 27-29, 2023, attracted participants from Bali, Banten, Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, Jambi, West Java, East Java, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
He said the 500-meter race was the biggest racing that legally accommodated wild motorcycle riders in the country.
"This is a form of appreciation from the high-speed lover community to the Metro Police. For that, I would like to thank all the participants," Imran remarked.
He also believes that the event can reduce the frequency of wild street races.
"For us, the concern is how the number of wild races can be reduced and about the safety and bringing the community closer to the police," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Metro Police Traffic Director, Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, explained that the motorcycle race to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Greater Jakarta Police was also enlivened with a bazaar, boxing competition, and freestyle motorcycle modification contest.
"There is also a safe riding education during the street race on January 27-29, 2023," he remarked.
The motorcycle race was originally held in Ancol on January 15, 2022, and involved 347 participants in the area.
At the fifth series opening in Kemayoran this year, Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono watched the race despite heavy rains lashing the Jakarta area.
