Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet to encourage national economic activity following the revocation of the community activity restrictions (PPKM) policy.

"I have seen first-hand that (tourism destinations in) Manado has started to receive a lot of tourists, Bali has started to open (international) flights to bring in (foreign) tourists (again), and also (visits by) local tourists are quite a lot," he observed at the Presidential Office here on Monday.

The president made the statement during a limited meeting themed “Increasing Economic and Tourism Activities After Lifting the PPKM.”

"(Hence) I asked for a report from the Menparekraf (Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno), including about tourism investments, especially in Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, Toba, and Likupang," he informed.

The meeting also discussed the current domestic economic situation, such as goods and services inflation.

"I think we have to be vigilant, especially regarding (the supply and price of) rice. Furthermore, about (the supply and price of) cooking oil, we have to manage it well,” Widodo emphasized.

He also highlighted the investment sector and asked Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, to disseminate information about the government’s plan for the sector.

A breakthrough to boost investment in Indonesia will be announced in the next two or three days, he informed.

Earlier, at the launch of the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) Festival 2023, he said that 2023 is expected to be an opportune time for recovering and expediting the growth of Indonesia's tourism sector.

The government has also launched the Proud of Indonesia-Made Products National Movement (Gernas BBI) to get more people to visit domestic tourism destinations, thus the number of domestic tourists is expected to double compared to 2022.

Widodo noted that as many as 110 KEN Festivals as well as 65 sports, music, and creative events are scheduled to be held all over Indonesia.

It has been confirmed that several international-level sports events will be held in Indonesia this year, including the F1 Powerboat, the U-20 FIFA World Cup, the FIBA World Cup, the ANOC World Beach Games, the MotoGP, as well as the World Superbike (WSBK) race.
