Be brave to take a risk, titles and topics that we perceive as risky can instead be a significant breakthrough
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno encouraged creative economy actors from the film sub-sector to be active, creative, and undaunted in taking risks.

Taking a risk, for instance, by making a movie whose genre does not follow the ongoing trend, is one of the criteria to ensure the success of filmmakers and those who are active in the industry, he stated.

"Be brave to take a risk, titles and topics that we perceive as risky can instead be a significant breakthrough. If we are committed to presenting a good product, the public will certainly respond positively," Uno noted, as per the statement on Tuesday.

The minister cited the success of "Kukira Kau Rumah" (2021) film, the directorial debut of actor Umay Shahab and starring Prilly Latuconsina and Jourdy Pranata, that attracted a large number of viewers despite its launch during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film, with its mental health theme, was a success amid the domination of horror-themed movies in the market in 2021, he noted.

Meanwhile, Uno encouraged filmmakers to continue to innovate, adapt, collaborate, hone soft skills, and implement good work ethics while participating in the industry 4.0 and society 5.0 eras.

The ministry will help them embark on new opportunities by providing facilities, guidance, and other aspects that would benefit filmmakers to support the national film industry, he affirmed.

The competency-based training activity for the film sub-sector that opened on Monday (January 30) is one of the ministry's concrete commitments to support the film industry, Uno stated.

He also confirmed that film festivals organized in 2022 would take place this year.

"For 2023, we will focus (for the) festival, which will motivate and bolster the spirit of young filmmakers to continue to create new works," the minister stated.
