Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is upbeat that the establishment of an international hospital in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bali could serve as a pilot project for other regions.

"We hope (the establishment of) this hospital can be replicated in other regions since the number of our advanced hospitals and health centers is still relatively limited," he stated in Denpasar, Bali, Saturday.

He noted that the number of quality hospitals in Indonesia is still disproportionate as compared to the number of residents.

The international hospital in the Sanur SEZ reportedly has a total area spanning 41.26 hectares, with 55 percent of green area, he remarked.

Construction of the hospital began in January, while the progress in work for supporting facilities, such as hotels, had reached 35.58 percent, with projected completion in November 2022, the minister stated.

"This is the development of the first health SEZ in Indonesia. It will be completed with a hotel. The hospital itself is targeted to be completed next year. This will change the health industry in Indonesia, where now there are not many super specialty health industries available," Hartarto remarked.

The minister also noted that in the same area, a super specialty clinic would be built, with consultants from the Mayo Clinic of the United States, and would contain a center for aesthetics, cancer, and oncology research.

"Of course, we hope that it can complete the tourism industry in Bali. If we have first-class health service, the tourists will be more confident in coming to Bali," he explained.

In addition, President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN), Christine Hutabarat, noted that the Sanur SEZ will start operating in January 2024.

"This includes the hotel too. The name of the hotel will be changed from Grand Inna Bali Beach to Meru Hotel since this is included in the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) subsidiaries," she explained.
