Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali expects that the new management line-up at the Executive Board of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) for the 2023-2027 period will focus on coaching junior athletes.

"I expect that with the coming new management, coaching will focus more on our junior athletes, and I think each club should pursue such coaching," the minister stated, as quoted from the ministry's official website here on Thursday.

Amali spoke of having constantly appealed to some foundations and sponsors to support efforts to develop national junior golf athletes.

"Personally, I, as the chairman of Damai Indah Golf, we also provide coaching and encourage them. There is even the Ciputra Foundation and so on. We concentrate more on coaching young athletes," he remarked.

On February 20-21, 2023, the association will hold a national conference for the 2023-2027 period at the Intercontinental Jakarta Pondok Indah.

The main agenda of the conference is to elect a new chairperson to replace Murdaya Widyawimarta Po, who could no longer run for the position, as he had held the post for two terms.

Minister Amali said he was pleased at the fact that increasingly more number of people come forth to volunteer as chairperson of PGI. He expects that such enthusiasm would lead to a profound impact on development of the national golf scene.

"I think this is an interesting thing because more and more people have the courage to come forward as candidates to become the PGI chairperson. I also expect that this dynamic will have a positive impact on the development of our golf (scene)," he noted.

The minister expected that more number of national golf athletes would participate at the Asian and global levels.

"In order to be able to perform at the international level, at least in Asia, it must begin with good coaching. I see what Mr. Po has done as PGI's general chairperson," the minister stated.

"I expect that in future, this coaching will be further improved, so that there will be more and more of our junior and senior golfers," he concluded.
