Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry established cooperation with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) to improve the people's economic and financial literacy.

This was agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Financial Literacy and Sharia Banking Improvement and Development through Education, Culture, Science and Technology.

"We expect that this cooperation can help us strengthen education and financial literacy," the ministry's Secretary General Suharti noted in an official statement on Tuesday.

Beyond the realm of financial education and literacy, the MoU also encompasses two other aspects of improving the capacity of human resources as well as implementing the culture and education priority program.

Suharti expects that the ministry can help strengthen other programs, including fund distribution to recipients of the ministry's programs, such as the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) and College Smart Indonesia Card (KIP).

BSI's Sales and Distribution Director Anton Sukarna noted that BSI had encouraged the birth of entrepreneurs at the campus in the form of the Islamic Socio Entrepreneur Program developed across all campuses in Indonesia.

"From there, there are those who became entrepreneurs and our customers, such as students, who managed to export pet feed to Germany," he remarked.

Throughout 2022, BSI had continued its sharia economic literacy program starting from the primary school to university level by providing an array of information on the field.

This information includes methods to manage finance in accordance with the sharia principle, sharia business method, implementation of sharia finance in Indonesia, and certified students' internship acceptance.

"This is conducted to increase the sharia finance literacy rate that is currently at seven percent," he stated.

As part of the MoU inking event, BSI holds the Mini Expo on February 13-15, 2023, at the third floor of Building C of the ministry's office.

The Mini Expo features a variety of activities, such as banking service in the form of BSI Griya, BSI mitraguna and games as well as prizes.
