Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Ministry of Finance is still calculating the amount of incentives to be provided to support the electric vehicle industry.

"The incentives are still continuously calculated by the Ministry of Finance as to how much (incentive will be provided) for cars and how much for motorcycles," the president noted at the opening of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2023 here on Thursday.

Jokowi stated that the government will prioritize the provision of incentives for two-wheeled electric vehicles.

"Of course, motorcycles will be prioritized first," he remarked.

The president expressed pride over the growth of the automotive industry in the country.

Jokowi noted that in 2022, the sales of cars had reached 1,048,000, while 5,221,000 motorcycles had been sold.

At Thursday's event, he urged the domestic automotive industry to not solely focus on domestic sales but also on boosting exports.

"We will continue to encourage the automotive industry to enter the export markets, so that the added value increases and foreign exchange can enter," he affirmed.

The president is optimistic that an annual automotive exhibition would aid in rapidly increasing vehicular sales in Indonesia.

The IIMS 2023 is being held on February 16-26 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO), Kemayoran, Central Java.

The Indonesian government has expressed its readiness to enter the electric vehicle era through the issuance of Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 regarding the acceleration of the program of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for road transportation.

It has also devised a road map for the development of the BEV industry through Industry Minister's Regulation Number 27 of 2020 on technical specifications, electric vehicle (EV) road map, and the calculation of domestic component level (TKDN).
