Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs always tries to carry out its programs in ensuring people's welfare based on the values of state philosophy Pancasila, its minister has said in a written statement received on Friday.

"I try everything, indeed, in translating Pancasila into every step we take," she said during the "Pancasila Kick-Off Meeting on Universal Planned Initiative for Preventing Stunting, Sexual Violence Against Women and Children, Domestic Abuse, and Mitigating Disasters" on Thursday.

She said that , she said that building simple houses, for instance, was carried out through "gotong-royong" (mutual help) with other parties, -a noble value taught by Pancasila.

She recalled her ministry's handling of the natural disaster in Majene, West Sulawesi.

With "gotong-royong", she said, his ministry managed to save a lot of money in rebuilding schools in the affected areas.

Efforts to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable people, she added, were driven by the determination to uphold justice according to the fifth principle of Pancasila.

Rismaharini put emphasis on promoting people’s dignity, just like Pancasila values, which highlight a just and civilized humanity.

To ensure a better life for people from the lower socio-economic classes, the ministry has constructed flats across 11 cities so that they can live comfortably.

The efforts are based on the national values of welfare and social justice for everyone, she said.

She said that her ministry was also doing its best to ensure that everyone, even those living in remote areas in Papua and Jambi, can receive aid from the government.

This is in accordance with the Pancasila point of view, she added, which sees everyone as equal to each other, with the same responsibilities and rights, no matter the background.

She said when she met the Suku Anak Dalam, an indigenous people, she had to move from Jambi for nine hours, until eventually she met tribal kids in the forest.

"These kids used to have long hairs, long nails. We taught them how to take a bath, we trimmed their nails, we taught them how to go to school," she recalled.

The ministry provided them aid as part of expedited efforts to ensure that people who live in poverty can find independence and get a hold of their lives, she added.

"I think those are our parts in (incorporating) Pancasila in our actions--of social justice for everyone," she added.
