Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nine thousand university students have joined the fourth batch of the Bangkit Program this year, an official from the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Nizam, said during an online media briefing on Monday.

The program known as Bangkit, which means “revive,” provides an opportunity to university students to become skilled digital talents, he explained.

The first batch of the program in 2020 was joined by 300 university students from 5 universities. The number of participants rose to three thousand in 2021 and 3,100 in 2022.

Meanwhile, the fourth batch of the Bangkit Program has been joined by nine thousand university students from all majors who are enrolled at several Indonesian universities.

At least 5,010 students will begin their learning during the even semester, while the rest will begin the program during the odd semester. The students participating in the even semester belong to 376 Indonesian universities.

Later, participants of the Bangkit Program will develop independent learning while participating in three main learning courses: machine learning, mobile development, and cloud computing, Nizam informed.

The students will not only learn hard skills, but also English and soft skills through the problem-solving program, wherein they will try to solve real problems faced by the industry through a capstone design project.

"The project is a rare opportunity, which will improve the participants' portfolio so that they can be more ready to become young talents for future Indonesia," he explained.

He said he expects that the Bangkit Program will produce a pipeline of new talents to expedite digital transformation and rapidly bring Indonesia into the future.

Bangkit Program will also offer an opportunity to students to receive materials directly from industry practitioners so that they gain the relevant skills that match companies' demands.

Several multinational companies are starting to see the program as a platform to recruit new staff, he highlighted.

Bangkit Program is a form of collaboration between the ministry, Google, Gojek-Tokopedia (GoTo), and Traveloka.
