Jakarta (ANTARA) - Infrastructure is no longer the main concern regarding the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem development in the country, an official from the Transportation Ministry said at the 2023 IMS here on Thursday.

As long as general electric vehicle charging stations exist, it would not be an issue, road transportation facilities director at the ministry, Danto Restyawan, said.

According to Restyawan, in the future, there will be routine policies mandating all government offices to set up charging stations for EV users.

The biggest problem facing EVs right now is trust in electric vehicles, he said. This trust revolves around EVs’ resale value in comparison to conventional vehicles.

When it comes to ordinary vehicles, there is usually a resale value, but when it comes to EVs, people are still unsure whether it exists or not, he explained.

This mindset needs to be changed in order to expedite the transition toward electric vehicles, he opined.

This is because this mindset played a role in the government's failure to meet the sales target for two-wheeled EV vehicles the previous year, he said.

In the previous year, the government had set the sales target for EV vehicles at above 100 thousand units, but only 30 thousand units were sold.

Despite this, the support from various motorcycle factories has been very positive. Since 2019, at least 9 electric motorcycle factories have registered with the association.

Moreover, the number of electric motorcycles sold from 2019 to 2022 exceeded more than 30,837 units.

In 2022, there was a significant increase with 53 factories registered with the association, according to the data provided by the Industry Ministry.
