"As part of Indonesia, it is appropriate that the chairperson and the executive board prioritize duties (to preserve) tolerance and maintain the collective faith," the ministry's Director General of Buddhists Community Guidance Supriyadi (like many Indonesians, he goes by one name) said per the statement, Monday.
While attending the inauguration of the Permabudhi executive board for the 2022-2026 term here, he pointed out that Permabudhi had recorded various achievements in the earlier leadership term.
The director general expressed hope that the religious association would clock greater achievements in future.
"I hope that for the next five years with new faces (in the executive council), Permabudhi can do more in the 2022-2026 term," Supriyadi said.
Persevering in the commitment to prioritize Permabudhi's interests rather than personal interests will bolster efforts of the executive board and members to realize the association's aspirations, he emphasized.
"We hope this commitment will be the spirit that remains in the hearts and minds of executive board members that would be the driving force for all coordinating (works) towards members' activities," he said.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of Permabudhi Philip K. Widjaja underscored that maintaining and increasing tolerance between members of religious denominations is part of implementing Buddhist values.
He also expressed optimism that Permabudhi would be the home in building a more advanced Buddhist community in Indonesia.
"It has been part (of our duties) to implement Buddhist values to maintain tolerance and nurture the communities' trust to develop themselves and bolster its quality," Widjaja said.
