"Regarding community development, Adipura can be a quite good guideline," she remarked at the Adipura Awards ceremony here on Tuesday, where awards were bestowed on cities/districts that managed to maintain their cleanliness and ensure good environmental management.
The Adipura Program aims to monitor the performance of district/city governments throughout Indonesia in implementing waste management and developing green open spaces (RTH), thus it contains the very basic values for regional development, she explained.
Furthermore, her ministry is seeking to carry out an ecosystem replication program by developing RTH, bolstering reforestation, and increasing community participation.
“Various (environmental) activities that we implement (in collaboration) with community participation have very potential (promising) results,” the minister remarked.
She said she expects the implementation of Adipura, Climate Awareness Villages, Mangrove Caring Villages, ecosystem replication and restoration, as well as eco-riparian or river revitalization programs to become priorities for regional development.
"If we have shady cities, (they) will become examples of great cities," she added.
During the 2021–2022 period, the Adipura Program was implemented in 258 districts/cities out of the 514 districts/cities of Indonesia, or 50.2 percent of the total districts/cities.
Five regions, namely Balikpapan City, Surabaya City, Bontang City, Bitung City, and Jepara District, received Adipura Kencana, the highest award.
Eighty districts/cities won awards for demonstrating good urban environmental management.
Meanwhile, 61 districts/cities received the Adipura Certificate for managing waste properly.
Four districts/cities with thematic locations won the Adipura Plaquette for the best waste management.
The minister informed that the Adipura Program is an environmental policy instrument, which has been implemented since 1986, with various changes and developments made to align it with the latest needs and policy directions.
“Thus, it can become an effective instrument in encouraging the development of a quality, clean, shady, and sustainable environment," she added.
