Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has emphasized its commitment to supporting the development and training of people with disabilities who are running micro-businesses to help them become more independent and successful.

As part of efforts to realize this support, the "Development of Micro-Business Human Resources' Capacity through Vocational Training for Disabled" event was held in Bogor city, West Java, on March 2–4, 2023.

"This activity is one of the government supports to strengthen micro-business players in developing their businesses, including disabled entrepreneurs," the ministry's deputy for micro-enterprises, Yulius, said in a statement released on Friday.

In accordance with Law Number 8 of 2016 on People With Disabilities, people living with disabilities are no longer seen as objects but as subjects, he pointed out.

"To this end, people with disabilities also have the right to receive the same treatment, such as getting jobs and capacity development to improve skills," he said.

According to Yulius, disability is not a hindrance for someone to move forward and run a business. Moreover, people living with disabilities can utilize information technology and other supporting facilities to improve the technical skills of micro-business human resources.

He further said that the government is making efforts to help MSME players carry out transformation and adapt to the digital era.

The Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry is cooperating with partners and various elements to jointly support several programs for the development and empowerment of MSMEs, especially those run by people living with disabilities.

"For MSME players, the current and future challenges will become bigger. I hope, by partaking in this training, (they) can obtain optimal benefits and can respond to business adjustments that are being carried out. That way, (their) businesses will be more advanced and successful," he said.

The participants of the training comprised representatives of the Deaf Welfare Movement (Gerkatin) of Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and Bogor.

The participants received training materials on the concept of cooperative entrepreneurship, business plans for micro-businesses, financial reports for micro-businesses, marketing vocational practices through social media, and practices of product photography for micro-businesses.
